ORLANDO Fla. -- The West Fargo Packatahnas once again claimed a national title at the Universal Dance Association’s National Dance Team Competition this weekend in Orlando, Fla.
The Packatahnas clinched the No. 1 spot on Saturday, Feb. 1, for a large high school in the varsity high kick division. The team also advanced to the semi-finals round in the varsity jazz category.
The West Fargo High School team made the trip to Florida after winning titles in Class A Large Varsity pom and high kick, and as runners-up in jazz at the North Dakota State Dance Competition on Jan. 24-25 in Grand Forks.
The 2020 national win will add to the West Fargo High School's trophy case. The Packatahnas have at least five first place titles in high kick at the Universal Dance Association regional competition. At the United Performing Association national competition, the Packatahnas have multiple firsts in jazz (3), pom (3), and high kick (7), and were named Grand Champions in 2003.
West Fargo also was back-to-back UDA national champion in high kick from 2006-07 when they were featured on ESPN, and possesses a plethora of state trophies that include at least eight high kick firsts in the last 25 years.
The national competition will wrap up Sunday, Feb. 2.
