PARKLAND, FL- The Parkland Buddy Sports Valentine's Dance is back again. The annual event has become a staple of the community and a wonderful opportunity to support our children and young adults with special needs. The dance is from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Sunday at the P-REC. Registration is $5 per person, and the organizers are also looking for volunteers at the event.
Parkland Buddy Sports began in 2002, when residents of Parkland identified a need in our community. Despite the excellent athletic opportunities available to the general public in Parkland, the special needs community was lacking an outlet for participation. Soccer, the first ever Parkland Buddy Sport, began its inaugural season. Seventeen years later, they are still going strong. The 2019 program included 8 sports with 150 players and over 200 volunteers participating. They are looking to grow again in 2020.
One of the unique aspects of Parkland Buddy Sports is that joining is free, and participants don’t need to be from Parkland. Any special needs child in the area is eligible for the program. Parkland Buddy Sports athletes come from everywhere in South Florida, from Wellington in the north to Miami in the south.
The Valentine's Dance this weekend will be followed by a Golf Classic Fundraiser in May. To register for the Parkland Buddy Sports Valentine's Dance this weekend or to learn how to support the program, please visit the Parkland Buddy Sports website.
